This week we would like to give thanks to the magnificent plant Damiana, a household staple in all of our homes. This herb has the potential to create balance in multiple areas of the body, mind and emotional state of being. You will find Damiana in our previous line tincture, Sensual Healing tincture blend, but you can found out more about the ingredient's of our products on our here. It is the primary herb in the blend for it’s medicinal properties focused on building and maintaining a healthy hormonal system and having a full sexual expression. We will address the origin/history of plant, as well as therapeutic benefits and create ways to get more Damiana in your life!

History: Turnera Diffusa

Damiana is a small, woody shrub native to Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Southern U.S. states. It blossoms early to late summer, and in addition to flowers, the plant yields fruit similar in taste to a fig. This herb has be utilized by indigenous people of these regions for hundreds of years. It was used in religious ceremonies for some time, until it was banned for it’s “passion powers” getting out of hand. Also used to make liqueur that was used in the “original margarita,” Damiana definitely continues to show us it’s diversity!

Therapeutic Benefits

For centuries this plant has been used to increase sexual expression by many different cultures. Whether the leaves were seeped for tea, or extracted for tonics, one of the key uses has been to stimulate the genital area. This occurs because Damiana is great for oxygen supply. When the blood has a healthy supply of oxygen it has the potential to travel smoothly throughout the body.

Damiana is also a powerful stimulant. It creates a symbiotic relationship with the bodies’ energy supply systems, therefor has the potential to increase sexual energy in addition to maintaining sustained energy levels throughout the day. Another key element you will see increased expression in is mood. Damiana is a mood elevator and has the potential to decrease possibility of depression, anxiety and mood swings (especially if you see these behaviors effect libido or sexual expression.)

This herb and cannabis go hand in hand for their properties that induce relaxation (not necessarily in a sluggish way, but in a way of decreasing tension in the bodies’ systems.) Many of therapeutic benefits of Damiana and Cannabis alike are achieved by long term, consistent use.
