CBD As Treatment For Insomnia And PTSD

Sleep is Essential

for all of us to maintain our everyday lives, yet many adults suffer from some sort of sleeping disorder and don’t get as much rest as they should. According to the American Sleep Association , 50 to 70 million U.S. adults suffer from one form of a sleeping disorder or another.

“Almost every clinical study that’s looked at cannabis-based medicines has shown an improvement in sleep,” said Dr. Ethan Russo , one of the world’s leading cannabis researchers. To say otherwise, he said, is “to be staring in a deep hole — a deep hole of ignorance.”

People with anxiety, insomnia, and PTSD have noticed that cannabis is a great alternative to prescription drugs because there are very minimal side effects, if any at all.

Anxiety and PTSD can lead to insomnia, and those that are taking cannabis have noticed that they are calmer and their anxiety levels are down, and they are able to get a good night sleep.

Despite the fact that sleeping aids can be prescribed by a doctor or found over the counter, some of these medications can cause serious side effects such as amnesia or sleep walking, and these can be very dangerous. If a doctor prescribes an opioid to help the patient sleep, the patient can develop a tolerance for the drug and they may end needing a higher dosage which could lead to addiction or even overdose.

Many of us in the medical marijuana community refer to cannabis as being a very effective treatment for sleeping disorders with little to no side effects, unlike prescribed medications.

Researchers have found cannabinoid receptors in the brain, gut, spleen, liver, heart, kidneys, bones, blood vessels, lymph cells and reproductive organs. With cannabinoid receptors in the brain, cannabis interacts with the receptors to regulate its functions. Therefore, someone that is having a hard time sleeping, cannabis will interact with the receptors in the brain telling the brain to “calm down, it is sleep time.”
